And this meme? This meme was nicked from [livejournal.com profile] slammerkinbabe. So!

Give me one reason why I'm going to Hell. (Or a couple of them. Or something.)

Then, (if you want to, and only if it's not too much trouble) post this in your LJ so that I can tell you why you're destined for eternal damnation.

Be creative! Have fun! Vote early and vote often! Don't all pick the same thing! Don't overuse exclamation marks!

Uh, but what you'd ACTUALLY go to hell for is... uh...

Hm. Well, I considered saying "WAAH I LIKED MY MECHANIC :(" but it's been said... uh, more eloquently... upstairs. And then I had to read all the other comments and got derailed by delicious thoughts, so I can't remember. (I've been reading fanfiction all afternoon. And not the "I'm only reading it for the excellent characterisation" kind either. ngk.)

Where was I? Right! Hell! O!

Well, I don't see why you can't go to hell just sort of, you know, on general principles. Sauntering vaguely downwards, sortofthing. After all, technically everybody's going to hell. Cos it's exothermic, or something. I read this theory...

You might yet be able to make him into a 1920s pulp fiction mechanic! If, um, that helps.

And I completely won't be GMing, for I'll have time to play, and to offer a community named after me, but I don't want a whole game to die because my schedule tends to be wobbly.

Well, if we're going for 1920s pulp fiction, I may as well abandon the whole mechanic idea... what did mechanics even DO in the 1920s? There's a reason I like futuristic SF or magical fantasy - it's cos I don't know jack shit about most of my characters context unless I can literally make it up.

There's a thing your character can take in this pulp RPG system that lets you get a bonus for trying to do something just because you can make up a pseudoscientific explanation for it. Which is to say, it's pulp.

And, honestly, I'm sorry that game didn't ever really start. I don't ever like not being able to do things that I say I'm going to - especially not when other people do stuff for it, and the stuff they do is that good.

Quite. Or, as they call it, Science!. There's also Weird Science and Mad Science on offer.

Mechanics are a standard character achetype in the game! One of the iconic example characters is one!

What do they do in the 20s? Plenty! Cars are new. The Ford Model T is still the most common car on the road. Airplanes are newer. Planes that can fly across the Atlantic reliably are still 10 years off (which is, of course, why another of the example characters has one).

And the ultimate purpose of mechanics in pulp? It's PULP. You can use your Engineering skill to make gigantic Radium Projectors or Transformers or such. There's even Weird Science and Mad Science stunts, letting you build shit that's right wacky.

Also, you bash in skulls with a monkey wrench. Which in combat is just as effective as a broadsword or firearm. Because it's pulp!

Hmmm. I'm still more comfortable with things I know at least a little about. That's why my original idea for [livejournal.com profile] apathy_games was a journalist. Mind you, I loved Tom's employment interview. "You do realise I just made all those terms up, right?" "Well, yeah, but... if the ship DID have an OMGWTF drive, I'd totally repair it with an orly lever."

Journalist is totally a pulp archetype! Read the content preview, and the description of the Plucky Reporter, reporting news of the exotic and exciting, and always on the lookout for the Big Scoop.
