And this meme? This meme was nicked from
slammerkinbabe. So!
Give me one reason why I'm going to Hell. (Or a couple of them. Or something.)
Then, (if you want to, and only if it's not too much trouble) post this in your LJ so that I can tell you why you're destined for eternal damnation.
Be creative! Have fun! Vote early and vote often! Don't all pick the same thing! Don't overuse exclamation marks!

*snickers madly*
I'm sure you've read the content preview though. That's pages straight out of the book, and covers all the general bits.
Aspects are completely wide open. The best are good and bad for you. Pick 10.
Stunts come from a large list (266 by my count). Pick 5.
Skills follow the pyramid. 1 at Superb (+5), 5 at Average (+1), you can figure out the rest. 28 to choose from :)
Once you know the system... you can pick your top 3 skills (1 at Superb, 2 at Great), and 2-4 Aspects... maybe a couple Stunts. And then the rest of the character just falls into place without any real effort. The hardest part, inevitably, is not picking aspects, but wording them so they're cool.

Date: 2006-10-19 06:32 am (UTC)Aspects-as-FP-lenses has been kicking about for a few months now, and it's really quite impossible to pick an aspect that doesn't have both good and bad.
Stunts sound like they've changed a little from last time I've checked.
The skills list is, I imagine, selected to suit pulp, and is built on the nifty skills-at-once rules rethink called Pyramid Reloaded.
Some aspects are cool no matter how you word them. The quote ones have always been fun, though.

Date: 2006-10-19 07:00 am (UTC)They spend a lot of time on how to choose good aspects. Some aspects are pretty lame. "Tough" sucks for instance. "Built to Last" is much cooler.
And phrases are awesome.
But yes, aspects. Spend an FP and invoke one of your aspects. Or tag an aspect belonging to the scene or an opponent. Doing so gives you a flat +2 or a reroll.
If your aspect is tagged, you get the FP for it. If the GM wishes to compel your character's behaviour in accordance to an aspect, you get an FP for it (or can pay one to ignore the aspect). This is the main way to regain FP.
Stunts vary wildly in their application. Scholar makes you especially good at one field of Academics. Auto Mechanic lets you use your Drive skill instead of Engineering, but only when working on cars (or at -1 on planes, because engines are engines). Barnstormer is a hoot. "Normally you can spend an FP and declare that by coincidence, there won't be any obstructions in a tight area to prevent you from flying through. If you have this stunt, you never spend an FP. If it could fit, it WILL fit. What's more, fi you actually DO spend an FP, you can fit your plane in places it has absolutely no business fitting."
Criminal Mind: You may use your Burglary in place of Investigation when examining a crime scene. If you've personally committed a similar crime yourself, you get a +1.
Also, the stunts chapter is full of phrases that will make you squee.
Things like Dizzying Intellect: When referring to your area of specialty, you know so much, nobody can tell if you're just making it up. You can use your Academics skill INSTEAD of Deciet.
or Developed Immunities: "That won’t work. I developed an immunity to iocaine years ago."
Skills: Academics, Alertness, Art, Athletics, Burglary, Contacting, Deceit, Drive, Empathy, Endurance, Engineering, Fists, Gambling, Guns, Intimidation, Investigation, Leadership, Might, Mysteries, Pilot, Rapport, Resolve, Resources, Science, Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Survival, Weapons
I love the combat balance in the game. ALL combat skills are basically equal. "Damage" is based entirely on your skill roll. This means that Fists, Firearms and Broadswords (or Barstools) are all of equal "lethality". There are no weapon stats. No ammo either. Reloads are considered part of the action.
There are differences between the 3 combat skills. Fists is "always armed" and good for attack and defence. Weapons requires you to be armed, but once you are, it's also good for attack and defence. You can also throw weapons up to a range of 1. Guns requires a gun (duh). You can use it for attack, but NOT defence. Pistols have a range of 2, rifles have a range of 3+. Guns users can defend using either Fists, Weapons (if armed in their off hand, or it's a bayonet rifle or somesuch) or Athletics (which can always be used to defend, especially if it's higher than your attack skill).
But yes, if you're armed with a knife, you can use your Weapons skill to defend against a gunman and a boxer equally well. Yay pulp!
I'm sorry, I'm proselytizing again...
