May I ask the ratio you're using for your mix? Some friends are trying to put together a zombie movie and had to abandon a similar idea with water pistols due to cloggage - a word I really like and will try to use more often.

The recipe I got from the Webbernet is 16:1 glucose/red dye, with a tiny bit of blue to darken it and a list of options as long as your leg.

What I made this morning worked out as 2 teaspoons of syrup, half a teaspoon of red dye, a couple of drops of blue and about 50-60mL of water.

For larger quantities, that's 20:4:1 water/syrup/red. It's kinda sticky, runs well, pools nicely, and I even got a bit of CSI-style spatter on my ceiling. There'll be a picture in a moment, and the water pistol still works.

One of the things I like most about randomly dying my hair red in re-enacting the scene from Psycho in the shower when I wash the dye out. Complete with "DEH DEH DEH!" loud knife stabby noises.
I think my flatmates may think I'm psychotic.
