I just deleted the contents of my spam filter in Gmail, and suddenly I'm using 12 MB less space. I'm not sure which of these factors is surprising me, but I'm certain it's one of them. Current contestants are:
  • That I had 4417 items of spam that were less than 30 days old.
  • That I had 12 MB of spam in the first place.
  • That 4417 items of spam is, in fact, only 12 MB.
  • That I'm caring about this, when all this really does is increase my free space from 2577 MB to 2589 MB, a staggering 0.466% increase.
  • That my spam filter hasn't been working so well recently to make me notice any of this in the first place.
  • That I can make up quite so many things to appear in this list.
  • That I still like to make lists have seven items.
Not that it really matters. And why not? Because today, it rained. Rain! Squeee!

I've vaguely started using LibraryThing. It interests me on some levels - the social and statistical aspects of it, mostly - while somewhere in the middle it irritates me by not letting me catalogue things properly. So, I've mostly started borrowing the hack they use for records from cataloguing agencies like the NLA and LoC - ie, using their 'publication' field to sneak in proper level 2 edition, publication and distribution, and physical description areas.

I'll show them. The next book I'm adding will just have to be my copy of AACR2. Ha!

About the only other news-ish thing for me today is some slight reshuffling of my friends list. And by 'reshuffling', I mean 'removal of those people who I'm fairly certain don't actually exist anymore'.

And so, following on from previous experiments (which have brought some wondrously excellent folk to my friends page): if you'd like for me to read your journal, do feel free to say so here. Adding a reason is optional, but could be rather entertaining.

My spam filter hasn't been working so well recently, either. Maybe it's off thinking up recipes...

Quite possibly. Or maybe there's just too. much. spam.

I've encountered a rather strange spam-related phenomenon at my workplace - spam forwarding. Apparently it isn't enough now to just get spam - you have to forward off the ones with the most nonsensical subject titles to your friends and coworkers.

No 'if you forward this off to ten coworkers, your manhood will increase by two inches' spam yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...

And I'd love for you to read my journal, should you have the opportunity to do so occasionally.

Spam forwarding? What's the world coming to?!

You should read my LJ because ummm... because... it's clever. It's a witty commentary on life as we know it I write most days, and there are pictures sometimes! Also, you have 49 mutual friends, wouldn't you like to make it a nice happy 50?

Also, I'm shamelessly hoping more people will read my LJ...

*Ends begging*

Her LJ is actually pretty interesting.

Mine's better, though. Read mine.

Mind has bad jokes featuring film noir and pacman.

Your default icon is Her Dread Majesty. That's worth points even without Pacman Noir.

Tuesday, 3am; I was on the trail of the missing power pellets...

I'm always watchin' me shoulder, cutter. Never know when her *shadow* might appear: iconizing Her Majesty could be taken as an' attempt t' *worship*...

[Glad you liked Pacman Noir. I'm very fond of him.]

There's plenty a basher as's done it already; Fell, too, an' like as not Aoskar. Could be argued LJ's near enough to the Mazes, though.

Yay, rain! I wish it was raining today, too. Stupid blue sky.

Spam has one use: to provide entertaining names for walk-on characters. This is why I'm very, very disappointed in the efforts of LowPriceMeds and such. I mean, couldn't they have put a little thought into it, flicked through a baby name book? I want my Herodion Moys and Urbana Colligans, thank you!

I have 201 new spam messages now. I have a Melanie Ventura on offer, if you need. Or a Teresa Bryant, or a Carlos Hensley, or even Zelde Straw. A good name generator indeed.

And... 203 now. *le sigh*
