I just deleted the contents of my spam filter in Gmail, and suddenly I'm using 12 MB less space. I'm not sure which of these factors is surprising me, but I'm certain it's one of them. Current contestants are:
I've vaguely started using LibraryThing. It interests me on some levels - the social and statistical aspects of it, mostly - while somewhere in the middle it irritates me by not letting me catalogue things properly. So, I've mostly started borrowing the hack they use for records from cataloguing agencies like the NLA and LoC - ie, using their 'publication' field to sneak in proper level 2 edition, publication and distribution, and physical description areas.
I'll show them. The next book I'm adding will just have to be my copy of AACR2. Ha!
About the only other news-ish thing for me today is some slight reshuffling of my friends list. And by 'reshuffling', I mean 'removal of those people who I'm fairly certain don't actually exist anymore'.
And so, following on from previous experiments (which have brought some wondrously excellent folk to my friends page): if you'd like for me to read your journal, do feel free to say so here. Adding a reason is optional, but could be rather entertaining.
- That I had 4417 items of spam that were less than 30 days old.
- That I had 12 MB of spam in the first place.
- That 4417 items of spam is, in fact, only 12 MB.
- That I'm caring about this, when all this really does is increase my free space from 2577 MB to 2589 MB, a staggering 0.466% increase.
- That my spam filter hasn't been working so well recently to make me notice any of this in the first place.
- That I can make up quite so many things to appear in this list.
- That I still like to make lists have seven items.

Date: 2006-11-13 04:54 pm (UTC)No 'if you forward this off to ten coworkers, your manhood will increase by two inches' spam yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time...
And I'd love for you to read my journal, should you have the opportunity to do so occasionally.

Date: 2006-11-14 03:55 am (UTC)Spam has one use: to provide entertaining names for walk-on characters. This is why I'm very, very disappointed in the efforts of LowPriceMeds and such. I mean, couldn't they have put a little thought into it, flicked through a baby name book? I want my Herodion Moys and Urbana Colligans, thank you!
