So, am I the only one who spent the last fifteen minutes refreshing status.livejournal.org over and over and over? Or, for that matter, the four tabs of LJ I had open at the time?

Actually...

I had just had the game I'd been playing for a few hours crash. So I decided to quickly check LJ before logging back in. At 10.55

I got an email from support saying they'd fixed my lost userpic (they hadn't), and nothing would open. So I checked Status, and DownForEveryone , then I twittered. Status updated about 4 minutes later.

Norty LJ not updating Status first.

I was bothered as mine is one of the UK ISPs that's censoring Wikipedia, and that just gives blank pages, which would Really Not Be Good. At All.

Ah well, I can instead bitch at the whingers in [livejournal.com profile] lj_design instead. "You've made all these changes that users have asked for, and I don't like them so you're obviously not listening to anyone and I want to throw my toys out the pram" FFS.

Mm, indeed. That was part of the problem: Status said LJ was live, LJ not doing anything said LJ was down.

And, yes. If only there were a place where they discussed, designed, redesigned and tested changes to LJ's features and interface. Oh wait...

What could they possibly be getting out of censoring Wikipedia?

There's a Scorpions album called 'Virgin Killer', the cover art has a naked (but covered) pre-pubescent girl. It's been reported as child porn to a nanny org that the ISPs run alongside the Govt.

One of those "it's for your own good, but we won't tell you what we're doing" jobs. Worse bit is the fake 404 combined with easy to work around if you know what you're doing.

Ah, one of those. Complete with its own secret 'we-can't-tell-you-what-we're-not-letting-you-see' blacklist?

Yup. I'm told you're getting similar soon by law—this is just voluntary, there's a fuss kicking up about it as it's stopping a lot of people (including me) from editing Wikipedia at all, which is annoying (I rarely edit, but I've been planning a set of local articles recently).

It's been done so badly it's devalued the idea at all, which is interesting to see.

And I'm rather hoping otherwise - which seems to mostly mean hanging my hopes on a ZOMGconservative senate. Sadly, there's been a near-total lack of fuss so far.
