A Meme, A Slightly Stolen Idea, And No More Than Thirty Words

Things had improved so much over the last few years; still, the President couldn't help but smile as she kissed the First Lady goodnight.

This relates to both my subjects for this post, so:

Firstly, a meme, from kittydesade:

To commemorate, in its own way, the passing of Prop 8, write slash. Not random PWP sex-slash, but loving committed relationships slash. Two people who love each other deeply and want to be together, to share their lives together, as simple as that.

The above, the start of this post, is my first for the meme; a little fragment of a thought, distilled into the format of the next item, that being The Slightly Stolen Idea mentioned in the subject line.


Some time ago, kdsorceress had a post that had random 30-word porn in it, and she then collected 30-word porn from her flist for a week. I'm sure I thought at the time that it'd make a fun idea for a comm - weekly prompts for 30-word fiction. It's a curious art, or game, or hobby, or whatever it is - writing just a little, then playing with the words until it fits; distilling a thought or an idea or an image into something like a little prose haiku. Thoughts?

As to the comm, that's a neat idea. Keep the themes ambiguous enough and people will try and be clever/subversive about it too, which can be fun.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to eventually start up that community, possibly at the one year anniversary (when I ask for more shortporns.)

Between this sort of writing challenge, and twitter, I'm beginning to come to enjoy a remarkable brevity in writing, quite unlike my norm. Much support!

A few years back someone hosted a 14-word-ficathon on her LJ. I was consistently amazed at the amount of angst/sex/squee that people could cram into such a small space.

Hi. You are a person I ran across who amused me. But I seem to confuse you with other people. All the time. So if I leave odd posts that don't make sense, poke me.

I hadn't thought of that concept much as a first for president. I'm eager for the first non-christian one, but they're both rather larger stretches...

That would be a good community. I... tend to write things such as thousand-word drabbles. And I still call them drabbles because they don't get smaller. *could use practise*
