A meme from [personal profile] ryttu3k

(and let's just pretend that I'm using this icon:

Pretending? Good.)

Anyway: meme. Yes.
  1. Go to the Wikipedia main page and click 'random article'. This will be your band's name.
  2. Click 'random article' again. This will be your album name.
  3. Click 'random article' fifteen more times, for the tracks on the album.
Because I'm me, I'll also link to the articles and add comments along the way.

Also, from any Wikipedia page you can quickly get a new random article by pressing Alt+Shift+X. Unless you're a Mac user, I suppose, in which case you're on your own I'm told Ctrl+X will work for you instead.

So!

Band name: Trichocentrum

It'll apparently be a small band, though we'll be considered to be among the prettiest of bands, and should be generally well-liked. There'll be some disagreement over just what genre we  play, especially since individual pieces are likely to be highly variable.

Plus, it sounds kind of cool. Yay!

Album Name: Tongue-in-Cheek

That's, um, just about perfect. Whee!

Track List:
  1. Law of the West

Law One of the West is you do not move your lips when talking about the West.

  2. BC Ferry Authority

A song about commercialised time travel. Need I say more?

  3. Victorian Ranger Association

All the rangers go on strike. You've got trolls, sure, but selfbows down means selfbows down.

  4. Battle of Mobei

I'd give it about a day before the song was commonly known as The Han Dynasty Shot First. And maybe we'd be quietly encouraging that name, but still...

  5. Eleutherodactylus acutirostris

This song is a stub. You can help the band by expanding it.

  6. 1853 in poetry

An inventive lyric that's simultaneously a pastiche of poetic works from 1853 and an overview of the poetic climate of that year, though - ultimately - doomed to be endlessly compared to 1852 in poetry, a track from the previous album.

  7. Tony Estanguet

Just secretly, you can also sing this song to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

  8. Robert Koch Prize

The song follows the trials of a cutting-edge research microbiologist who, every year, loses the Prize to a rival. The point-of-view character evolves, year by year, into a mad scientist. FOOLS! BWAHAHahahahahaha!

  9. Section 51(xii) of the Australian Constitution

The legal basis of Australian currency, now in song form!

  10. CIA Library

Comes complete with lines like "You could search the catalogue/but then we'd have to kill you".

  11. Agent Video Intelligence

A song about how, one day, software for monitoring suspicious activity in public areas will get bored and start searching for porn on the Internet.

  12. The Wheatsheaf tram stop

By popular demand, a song about a tram stop that doesn't even exist.

  13. Grenade (disambiguation)

Including a variation on the line "it sure would be nice if we had some grenades", this song runs the listener through a variety of different kinds of grenades.

  14. Shiraz Metro

This would pretty much have to combine wine and public transport. If anyone ever wants to experiment with making a public transport system equipped throughout with bars, do sign me up.

  15. List of Law & Order episodes (season 17)

The first verse is a spoiler warning.

And there we have it: an album. I'm sure it'd sell a copy. Somewhere. Eventually.

Sorry, you're not on your own if you're on a Mac: use Ctrl+X (no shift required, as cut is command-X). This has been tested on a first generation black MacBook running OS X v. 10.5.1 just about a minute ago at my present location (read: I did it just now on my computer, which happens to be a Mac).

And for some reason, I don't feel guilty at all about running Darwin.

I meant more that I haven't a clue how it's done with a Mac, so you'd have to figure it out yourself. Which you did!

Yeah, figuring out what you Windows folk are doing is beyond me.
