Let's say I suspected someone webcheating on a memequiz. Now, the obvious thing to do is to just ignore it, and let that person live with their guilt, so on, so forth, et cetera, except that they probably won't be feeling any kind of guilt over it and maybe the kind of elated thrill that inflating a number on the Internet gets them.

This isn't entirely without reason. Recently, one of the players in my ongoing memequiz has been giving answers in a way that defies all apparent trends, and looks almost exactly like a poorly-conceived strategy for trying to not be caught webcheating (like, say, not getting #49).

So, dear LJers, the question is this: given the constraints of reality (ie, iocaine powder doesn't really exist), what is the appropriate way to deal with a suspected webcheat?

And now that's all posted - coming later: books, gateway drugs, and odd reminders about communities.

Well, haha, the "You now know that I know that you know too much" method has always seemed to work, so this is a good first step, methinks.

Ask them privately? I guess it depends on whether you've got any more basis for suspicion other than them not giving the answers you'd expect.

Hypothetically, do these odd community reminders (odd reminders about odd communities?) incluse something happening with [livejournal.com profile] apathy_books?

It's more that the pattern seems suspicious, but... something. I'll see if it happens again, then, if so... something. Just not iocaine.

And yes! They do! I'll post the Template of Doom, and then get people to post things, and then there can be tags and memories and stuff. You could post about DH, or something. :D

And something has happened. Multiple somethings. Feel free to play with the comm info and the layout and all things else, if you'd like. :D

Don't let me touch your layout, you'll end up with something eyeburny like my LJ!

All it's got at the moment is a moderately-eyeburny default one.

Maybe it's better to have a post or two before playing with the layout?

Yes, because that way we'll have a better idea of how it looks with a few posts.

I am contemplating an idea with a background picture, but as I haven't had a layout with a background picture before, it may take some experimenting.

I had a picture that might've turned into a background, but I was never really happy with it, so... stuff. Ideas are always good, though.

Okay, well, what I'm thinking of doing is getting lots and lots of book cover thumbnail pics and making a big background that can then tile together.

Post a very public entry about how you think someone may be cheating. If they have any brains, they'll figure out it's them. If they don't figure it out and then feel a bit teeny for cheating, well, then...

it's time to invent some iocaine.

In other words, do exactly this? :)

Ooh... iocaine. It'd be so very useful.

Yep. You are sneaky. Vewy, vewy sneaky.

Also: we'd have to build up an immunity first. Don't forget that.

Ooh, yes. If it helps, I'm in precisely the right place to invent iocaine. I just need to find some criminals...

What about the aerosol necrotizing fasciitis?

The problem is the overspray; at least with iocaine, it's possible to build up an immunity.
