I have a photo from when I was trying to clean out my cheap water pistol, because, really, glucose syrup - however diluted - isn't meant to go through them.

And so, I have a photo from this process.

I think it's coming out a little bit too red and a little too translucent, but that was because I didn't adjust my colouring for trying to get it through a water pistol. There's other options for making it darker and/or more opaque: there may be experiments with parisian essence, coffee, milk, and whatever else I can think of. Or whatever you, my talented flist, can suggest. (Suggestions may include things like 'no, it looks fine to me' if I'm going a little insane about this)

And, in case you want to rage about the dangers of water pistols, I have a general-consumption icon. Whee!

You're right, it does look more like raspberry juice, or something...

Hmm. I have had two occasions to fake blood or bloodstains. One was during drama class, studying Rituals (don't ask). For what earthly reason I can't recall, but I held up a bowl of "blood" to the heavens at some point during our performance. We used tomato sauce, but it looked too gloopy, so we diluted it with water and, I think, grape juice or something. But that's not so good for water pistols...

The other thing is that for bloodstains, especially on the hands or mouth, eating mulberries is both fun and productive.

Stains should be fine. I can probably also do fairly good pools and puddles. It's just that I need to make something thin enough to get through while still being fairly opaque, which will -I think - mean experiments with the things above.

I suppose there's always ink.

Chocolate syrup + monochrome = win

Except I'm not planning on B&W, because it'd be out of character for the rest of the shot I have planned.

So, 'science' it is. :)

Ultimately... you may need to abandon the water pistol due to viscosity of the desired output.

Perhaps a large oral syringe may better suit your purposes?

The entire point of the water pistol is that I'll need something capable of producing a reasonably fine mist which goes in a fixed direction. Runny opacity can be done, it just means experimenting with the colouring agents.

YOU ARE A LOOSE CANNON. WE DON'T NEED YOUR KIND OF VIGILANTE TREEHOUSE HERE AT ENCYCLOPEDIA BROWN, INC.

YOUR GUN AND YOUR BADGE. NOW.

I DON'T HAVE A BADGE. IF YOUR SUCKY ENCYCLOPEDIA ISN'T EVEN ISSUING BADGES, THEN YOU CAN'T FIRE ME, BECAUSE I QUIT.

Or something like that. Actually, I'd like it if that happened in a police show: "You can't suspend me! I'm taking sick leave!"
