I've just had cause to abreviate Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and I suddenly feel that the HP:ToP (Harry Potter and the Thing of Plot!) abbreviation would be better replaced with the += operator, e.g. HP+=PoA.

Dear flist, am I entirely too far down the path of madness?

Okay, that's geeky, even for me.

That said, I find it hilarious. And I never doubted that you were too far down that mad path.

Down the path and around the corner. :)

Entirely too far down the path?

Are you trying to imply that, at some point, you were NOT?

Well, no. Especially since some days I make Ophelia look sane and sensible.

This thought just occurred to you?

Yes, while abbreviating a HP title, which I do very seldom. The += works so much better.

I always go for &t myself. It also makes sense in handwriting.

You are. ToP is obviously a property of the HP franchise, so the correct operator is HP->ToP.

To me, that looks like the logical 'implies' operator, which means that Harry Potter existing implies that there will be a Thing of Plot. Which also works :)>.

Except in fanfic. So, (HP ∩ ¬fic) → ToP. Or, possibly, HP → (ToP ∪ fic).

Except it's Harry Potter and the Thing of Plot, rather than Harry Potter's Thing of Plot.

Either way, while (HP) {JKR->bankAccount++;}

I have one calculus brain cell left.

It's the one that takes this simple statement

lim (__x___)
x>>∞ ( x+1 )

and recites it as "the limit of x over x plus one as x approaches pretzel."

So JKR's bank account is approaching pretzel. And we know how that almost killed George W. Bush.

Long as we're on the subject, look for JKR's new mathematical treatise, Harry Potter and the Ordering of the Operations, which in your system would come out something like this (HP)=(PEMDAS)
