Firstly, look at the pretties:

Secondly, my telephone is broken. It doesn't ring when people call; it'll just sit there without making a sound. Very Odd Indeed, I think.

Thirdly, I have a notion to find some kind of online roleplay. To this end, I think I'll be back with a poll all shortly-ish.

And I think that's about it for the moment. There's not a lot to report from today.

At the risk of accusing you of missing the obvious: have you checked the phone to be sure it doesn't have one of those "ringer off" toggle switches that got accidentally off-ed?

Both phones - the one on the wall, and the cordless one, refuse to ring. Both have the ringer on, and are on full volume. Both can call out, and both can receive calls.

Anything else on your incoming line that could be interfering? We had serious yuckies on our home phone line once, which we wound up tracing back to a rarely-used extension in the cellar which had a line plugged into the modem of an even-more-rarely-used computer. Once we unplugged that, everything else was fine.

Failing that, the simplest test would be to disconnect each of the two phones one at a time, then call the other from a neighbor's or your mobile. If neither is working when only one is connected, that suggests it's somebody else's whee! a line problem.

Nothing else at all. Neither works - concurrently or consecutively - so I think you may be right. It's been about a month since the last time it broke. *le sigh*

This sounds like something I hear a lot at work. Dare I ask with whom you have phone service? (I'm wondering if it's the reseller I work for)

My phone's with Telstra, which is the one that owns basically all the landline phone infrastructure in Australia.

You know, I completely forgot that you're on a different continent.
*feels dumb*

But seriously... stuff like that happens so often with the company I work for, it's pathetic.

That's ok. I thought you were Elsewhere, and thought I'd double-check with your userinfo, didn't see anything listed, and decided to answer anyway just in case my memory's completely broken.

Last month, and the month before that, some bit in the exchange completely broke and left me completely without a phone. This is something of an improvement, partly because it doesn't hurt my Internet.
