Just for a bit of fun, the following is a collection of misheard lyrics. What I'd like you to do is comment with the title, artist and the correct line for each of them. After the mishap that was the translated lyrics meme, this is all just filtered through the somewhat lacking ears of the average listener. The ten songs are all from my Winamp playlist, if you're after special inspiration to play with your own flist.

Yes, yes, yes. Oh god, yes. Many points and an e-*hug* for you.

How exactly does a carnivorous piano sound?

Yes. But only not, since my curiosity demands asks nicely for human sacrifices a brief text description.

"I like wine and clear fountains/But I really like lemon peels"

Still Haven't Found (what I'm looking for). Except I don't hear the "really" no matter how many times I try to reverse-engineer this mondegreen.*

* mon-duh-green

And as if these don't get weird enough? The misheard line in your first one, about Walter the fire engine guy? That reappears as an actual line in BNL's "The Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel."

It is indeed. And hello!

I can get either 'really' or 'but', but never both. Some people just have amazing anti-talent.

You owe me the actual lines, too. :)

Sorry. Up late with fireworks last night.

I have climbed the highest mountains, I have run through the fields.

The "but" I can hear, cause he kinda double-pumps on the second "I," but the really still shakes me.

And yes, I was one of the people who, until quite recently, thought the line in "Groovin'" by the Rascals was "you and me and Leslie."

I'm sure I managed to find it once, but only if you don't at all expect it to fit with the rest of the song.

I was kinda guilty of [number 6], from when I first heard the song. Context soon set me straight.

My most persistently misheard lyric is from Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." Generally it ends up being something ridiculous like "Hey! Wayne! I want a moose toupee!"
OH... and also, there's They Might Be Giants' "Ana Ng"... the correct version of the line is "we still haven't walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence," but it mutates itself into things like "we still haven't walked in the world of conceptual science." Eeg.

From: [identity profile] active-apathy.livejournal.com
I'm pretty sure I've never heard either of those songs. Still, I'm intrigued. Why would it be conceptual science?

Date: 2005-07-04 03:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] trueflight.livejournal.com
Well, I don't ever expect anyone to have heard any TMBG songs, and as for Nirvana... it was pretty unescapeable in America in the 90's, but I don't know how much of the whole grunge thing the rest of the world heard. I can post either one of you'd like to hear them (though the lines I mishear really don't sound a thing like what my brain turns them into).

I don't know why it would be conceptual science, other than that the video for the song is very odd and involves synchronized jumping. The other thing I thought it was at one point was "perpetual silence"... considering that it's part of a song, that makes even less sense.

Synchronised jumping? That is odd. Very odd.

Very, very odd.
