Dear [livejournal.com profile] shaysdays,

zero-gravity sex is proving somewhat difficult to write. I may have to post it late, such as tomorrow.

Weightlessly,
[livejournal.com profile] active_apathy.
Today was also a boring day. So, I read the second part of The Amulet of Samarkand, marking amusing spots with a thin slip of paper.

There's a forest of little slips of paper poking out of the middle of the book.

To quote one in particular - not spolierish, but cut and in white just in case:

The imp gave a forlorn cry. 'O brilliant ray of starlight, it grieves me, but I do not know! May I be toasted for my ignorance! I simply carry messages, worthless as I am. I go where I'm directed and bring replies by return, never deviating from my course and never pausing - unless I am fortunate enough to be waylaid by your good grace and squashed under a stone.'

-Jonathan Stroud, The Amulet of Samarkand, p 159

And thus is it amusing. And it's making me do that thing where I read books a little bit at a time to try to make them last longer.

It was hot today. I see that the weather has responded to my earlier comments with great enthusiasm, but didn't pay much attention to my comments about pacing itself. Grr.

Also, I see there's much drama about everyone getting subdomains. While it's upsetting to see, I do feel the need to point something out - it's possible to write a Firefox bookmark that'll painlessly take you to whatever slice of LJ you desire. You:
  1. Go to Bookmarks -> Manage bookmarks.
  2. Click 'New bookmark'
  3. Give the bookmark a name
  4. For 'location', put in http://%s.livejournal.com
  5. For 'keyword', type lj
  6. Optionally, type in a description
And then, whenever you want to look at a journal, simply type lj username in the location bar, and it'll painlessly send you to the journal, comm or feed of your choice. Which reminds me, I wanted to see if something might be useful, since I had a theory.

( Here be polls. ) Here be the poll, because LJ was silly. Grr.

Also, 11:59? I win nearly lose at daily entries.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who rips up random slips of paper to mark interesting spots in my books. (I think my copy of The Silmarillion has one every other page or so.)

I tried dog-earing pages, once, but it hurt me...

'Twas made by [livejournal.com profile] indilime, and it is gankable with credit, I believe. :)

I honestly don't remember half of that episode, because I spent so much of it squeaking out things like "Sawyer! Watership Down! Bwee!"

I don't like hurting my books, and I like having interesting spots marked... but then I have too many, and lose any idea of where, what or why they are.

Oh, I definitely have too many. I keep checking the spots I've marked in my Silmarillion, but I can never remember why I marked them.

Except for page 292. That one's got an actual bookmark in it, all the time, because the fall of Gondolin is probably my favorite passage ever.

Whoa. I didn't know Firefox could do that.

I've made then for LJ accounts, my friends page, other peoples' friends pages, friend of a friend pages, ljinfo pages and icon pages, an RPG I'm in, an RPG I mean to apply for, Real Life Comics and Questionable Content.

They're fun. And useful, if you're lazy about clickybookmarks.

That is a very cool function. You're linked to from [livejournal.com profile] lj_dev. If you get linked to from one more community I'll just friend you to save following the links...

But. Don't need to do a special bookmark for QC, I completely forgot I'd not set any up at work and got there directly by typing Questionable Content in the location.

Wasn't until afterwards I realised I'd never been there from work at all before (well, what are you supposed to do as the only one in the office New years Day nursing a hangover?). Keywords are great, hadn't encoutered them properly until then.
