...because I was sidetracked with reinventing mermaids.

It's yesterday's news, at least.

There was a spider in my bathtub this morning. This one was trifling and little, but it was imprisoned on a bench between a glass and a piece of paper. My priorities are clearly defined, in this instance - spider leaves bathtub, but having bath (complete with vanilla bubble bath, yay!) comes before throwing spider outside.

Maybe that'll make it think twice. Not particularly likely, since they expect for it to be rainy here for a few days yet. Grr.

*resolves to keep broom close*

My other big item of news is that I've officially decided pinball is electronic crack on skinny steel legs. Today, I was again playing the Lord of the Rings pinball machine, and had the oddest thought from some of the samples they use - specifically:

Legolas: "You have my bow!"
Gimli: "You have my axe!"

And what does this make me imagine? The nine of them, forming a band possibly called The Fellowship of the Rock.

So, we have Gimli on a guitar, and Legolas with a violin. This leaves seven more... and I open the floor for discussion on Middle-Earth's newest band. Let's not worry about anachronism too much, here.

Boromir would obviously play the horn.

Gandalf would probably handle the pyrotechnics.

Somewhere there exists a poster that I and my former housemates had printed of all of us posing as members of a metal band (Nekrodomos - University of Rock!); one of us was holding a sword as if it were a guitar. Ah, happy days.

!

How did I miss the horn?

Yay for the pyrotechnics. And he has a cart. And he promises to help Frodo bear his burden... Gandalf the Roadie?

Pippin and Merry as backing dancers/comic relief.

Sam as Mr. Frodo's personal assistant (he has to make sure that he gets his 500 brown M&Ms before the gig).

Frodo is kind of the front man, although he actually just holds his sword up to the microphone. Because who wouldn't want Sting on vocals?

I'm sorry, I couldn't help the pun

It is, however, established in print and on film that Pippin can *sing*.

"Mr. Frodo's not going anywhere without his brown M&Ms. 'Don't you let none of those orange ones in, Samwise Gamgee,' the old gaffer used to say."

And... there's no comment for that pun, unless he then takes Sting over to put the edge on guitar.

Maybe Pippin as a backing vocalist then.

You too with the punning?

That works.

And... um... yes.

I see Gandalf as being roadie/manager/agent: he arranged for the band to all meet up in the first place (at Rivendell, the Last Homely Recording Studio), was constantly running around trying to deal with emergencies that popped up ("What! We're short 2,000 security for the Helm's Deep gig? Saddle my horse."). Plus the big publicity stunt with the Balrog (paid in advance to throw the fight), and the fake death (while he was secretly on holiday relaxing from the stress and getting his robes steam-cleaned).

Was it a publicity stunt, or is he a bouncer too?

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
[beat]
"Dress code."

Maybe, although bat wings, horns and a flaming whip seem to be pretty acceptable dress for a rock concert.

"Your fake tickets will not avail you, flame of Udun!"

Or, just maybe,

"A flaming whip is not ID!"

"Are you over 21?"

"Over 21? I'm a Balrog, for Melkor's sake! I was created at the beginning of time with the Valar, and was given power over fire and darkness by Morgoth Bauglir during the First Age! I think that makes me a bit over 21!"

"Do you have ID?"

"ID? Come on Gandalf, you know me."

"Sorry, but without ID you shall not pass."

I feel compelled to quote this. Do you mind?
