This is the second of three posts scheduled for this... um... morning, now.

And so!

Some people want me to read HP. I want people to read a certain selection of books which I very much like. And so, I was considering making up a kind of fandom exchange thingy, where I read the six published HP books in return for a number of other people reading a selection of works by an author of my choice; in this case, Garth Nix.

The six books would be, in order, Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen, Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday and Drowned Wednesday. And then, it'd be a race for whichever is first out of HP7 and Sir Thursday.

Since there's six books, I'd be after a minimum of six LJers who have read, or are prepared to read, Mr Nix's works. Of course, I'm open to the idea of more. Those who have already read any or all of those of Nix's works can come and play, and you can use this kind of fandom bribery to lure other people into reading what I consider to be some of the best books in my bookcase.

There would be a comm, and people could expect to see me post some kind of commentaries on the HP books on the way through, as well as playing in discussiony stuff for the Nixfans-to-be.

Also, people signing up for this would be under absolutely no obligation to go all the way through if they don't like Garth's style. I'm not going to force people who don't like him to read his books.

As my budget is limited, and my ability to devour books both tremendous and sporadic... not sure if I'll do this.
I've read HP 1-5, but no Nix.

Bear in mind, I buy almost all my books from thrift and second hand stores, so selection can be limited.

As a result of your constantly mentioning Nix, I have been intending to pick up any I see... the probem being I simply haven't seen any to pick up.

I don't plan to actually start until January, owing to the fact that it's OMGdecember and all; even then, I think it'll probably be something like one book every week or two.

See now, that's the problem.

I can't read them that slow. On days with a long commute for work, I'll finish four 300-400 page books in a week.

So yeah, could be problematic, that "pacing" thing.

I can't read books that slowly, either. Trick is you don't have to.

The 'pacing' isn't for the time to read it, but it does have to allow for slower readers than, say, me. It's also to help space out book purchases, and to give a little bit of time to fill a corner of the Internet with much talk of books.
