Can one of you creative and/or intelligent folk please kindly help with something?

I need to find a good reason why my cupboards conspire such that, when I need to buy tea, I also need to buy crumpets.

I suppose they're still fitting in all their cupboard-wear, then. Perhaps they just hide the weight gain better.

Or perhaps your dogs have colluded with the cupboards and are eating the crumpets while you are out.
