Nov. 8th, 2006

Today, for a change, let's go from the trivial to the important.

It rained today. Unhappily, it elected to do so on a day in November in a period of severe drought, so I had neither coat nor umbrella. Also, because I wanted to, I was wearing copious amounts of white. Happily, this near-disaster was averted by the rain carefully only falling while I had some form of shelter.

I suspect the final scorecard looks something like this:

In completely unrelated news, there were two rosellas outside the window this morning, and I really couldn't help myself. So, I spent the next few minutes saying something like:

"Two by two, tails of blue, two by two, tails of blue, two by two, tails of blue, two by two..."

Next! Here in Australia, the first Tuesday of November is the day of the Melbourne Cup, a big and moneyful horse race. Like many other people, I picked one of the ones that lost, and I'll never get that $2 back. Much as you'd expect, horsies ran, and a horsie won, and two horsies placed, and all the other horsies lost.

And seeing as how it's a race that stoppifies the whole. damn. nation, it's rather nightmarish to try to get home after it's finished. Except, I imagine, in Melbourne, where the peoplefolk actually get a day off instead of just leaving their places of gainful employment to slip off to the pub at lunchtime (and having their lackeys subordinates cover for them).

Coincidentally, the day with the horsies (ie, yesterday) is also the day with the midterm ejection in the US (ie, today). Fox is probably already calling results.

So! If you're a US-type-person who can vote, go and do so. If you know US-type-people who can vote, get them to go and do so. We (ie, the rest of the world) would be happier seeing as many of you as possible going along to have a say in how you want your country to be run.

(If it helps, in return I promise near-full voter turnout for the Australian federal ejection next year.)

And... that's about it for today.
