From the news on the radio, the results of a preferred prime minister poll:
  1. Kevin Rudd - 70%
  2. Brendan Nelson - 9%
(One for Nelson, two for Nelson. Unfortunately for him, they surveyed 22 people.)

This may be starting to look a bit like a large-scale version of the NSW approval rating, where the most recent preferred premier poll I could find looks like this:
  1. Morris Iemma - 58%
  2. Who's the other one? Y'know, the opposition guy. Drab Man? Something like that - 24%
(In fairness, polls show that 48% of voters know Peter Debnam's name now. Somehow they think this is a good result.)

From these results two things stand out to me, namely:
  1. Morris Iemma could improve 12 points if he could be competent
  2. Brendan Nelson could improve 15 points if everyone would just forget who he is

Er, yes. I know this is the wrong political system to be posting about, since there was an elljay poll and everything, and I'm really going to get to that eventually. And yet this is probably still more interesting than telling you all about how Labor has more preselected candidates for part of the ACT than there are seats to contest. Unless maybe there's going to be a special kind of ballot this year, where you first vote for your preferred candidates, and then for whoever you think should sit in their laps.

Ohgodno, unless Parliament suddenly gets prettier.

MPs, Senators.

So, there are options for non-horrifying politislash. Not very many, but options all the same.

But still: no. No parliament!slash.

...please tell me you meant Kate Ellis.

Also, the way Shinyhead McGarrett moves about when he speaks in Parliament looks oddly like the way he danced in Midnight Oil. It's... kind of scary, actually.

You can watch Parliament live on the Internet. Honestly, it's as boring as it sounds.

Er, here. A Midnight Oil film clip. Just imagine Garrett's dancing, but slower, in a suit, with a speech about... climate change and international renewable energy targets and green energy vouchers for schools.

So now I suspect this may make more sense.

This merely confirms my hypothesis that the eighties were severely high. Not the people, the actual decade.

...but how do you send a whole decade to rehab?

Also, I finally watched Good News Week. Is it just me or is this just The Glasshouse: New And Improved? Not that that's a bad thing :P

The Glasshouse was made by the people who made old!GNW, and who make new!GNW now. It was a bit like GNW-light, so: pretty much!

Ah, we'll let you get back to the Americans later, preferably after it makes more sense, which with any luck will happen on the 4th. I'm just hoping for both Ohio and Texas to go the same way. It's the last chance to have a Democrat ticket before the end of August.

Of course, I could well see the loser for the Blue going off on their own, in which case, we're screwed and McCain is President.

Yeah, I remember reading that article about how everybody thinks Iemma and State Labor suck (which they do) but State Liberal are basically invisible to us all. I don't know his name either.

But why? If they got themselves together and got noticed, people would be falling over themselves to vote for them!
