It's amazing how much you can miss something that's only very, very rarely useful, but I feel weirdly satisfied about having just been able to edit a comment so that no-one would ever know that I somehow misspelt 'therein'. When absolute power is mine following the zombie apocalypse, I'll have my secret police go through and exterminate all my typos like that - though under careful watch, lest they try to alter my words to suit their own nefarious purposes.

(Of course, this all rather ruins the effect, but still. Comment editing! Icons! Oh yes indeed, the icons. When absolute power is mine following the zombie apocalypse, I shall have precisely so many icon spaces as I could ever desire. Otherwise, I have mentioned the secret police, yes?)

...it's rather possible I need extensive professional help.

Also! As an alternative to spamming your flists with a second post I'll just do this here, since I've been meaning to borrow the idea from [livejournal.com profile] laurenmitchell for a few days now. So.

Recommend some music! Don't worry about trying to divine my musical tastes; just suggest something. I'll try pretty much anything, so. Suggestions. Many. Here. Please?

(And if there's something that's particularly good, or representative of a band or artist or such, please do point that out as well. It'd be much better than accidentally basing my opinion of an artist on, say, a bootleg recording of a live performance of a B-side that sounds like it was recorded inside a watermelon.)

Hmm. I didn't so much mean individual tracks, but! Suggestions. Good. Thanks!

(That may be helpful, though I'll see what I can find before then.)

Quite welcome. I tend to thnik of music as tiny pieces, rather than chunks. I don't think I have any entire tracklistings in my collection...

I have a few of them, which ends up meaning I have music I never listen to but keep because I like the completeness, and because it looks kind of pretty all lined up in a list.

Which, I think, probably says more about me than it does anything else. :)

Well, if I'm listing bands I found online, Regina Spektor, Spoon, The Weepies, and The Be Good Tanyas all stand out, and all let you listen to samples online (although The Be Good Tanyas is Myspace). Besides those, The Mountain Goats let you download one sample MP3 from each disk - "New Monster Ave" is good, I haven't heard the others - and they have a couple videos, of which "Woke Up New" in particular must be seen to be believed.

I guess that'll do for a start.

I have a couple of old song rec posts that still have active links, here, here and here. You should be able to play them without downloading, as well. Um, I might try to u/l more later; I've been planning another music post anyway, and this would be a good time.

I've been sharing a lot of music recently in my journal, but it's flocked. I have you friended, so you should be able to see it. I haven't posted much besides music recently, so the posts are very easy to find.

There are recommendations for classical music and New Zealand music, quite a lot of rarities by Radiohead and Death Cab for Cutie, and links to a whole pile of other stuff. Feel free to help yourself to anything and everything!

You mean aside from the Planescape: Torment soundtrack? Here are some recommendations! Most of them are kind of indie. I listen to many other genres, and looove recommending stuff. Links take one to the Wikipedia entry, because.
  • Andrew Bird. Especially Armchair Apocrypha and The Mysterious Production of Eggs.

  • Nouvelle Vague: Nouvelle Vague. Bossa Nova covers of old songs! The cover of 'Too Drunk to Fuck' is HILARIOUS.

  • The Magnetic Fields: 69 Love Songs. Some are hilarious, some are lame, but the hilarious ones are totally worth it.

  • Kate Miller-Heidke. You just want to pick her up and cuddle her!

  • Pink Martini: Every single album they have released ever.

  • The Golden Palominos: Dead Inside. Very, very creepy. Awesome. And creepy.

  • Future Sound of London: Dead Cities. I listen to this when writing dark urban stories. Few lyrics, and very moody.

  • Gregorian. Any of them really. Yay modern songs covered in Gregorian chant! You've probably heard of them already.
  • Deltron 3030: Deltron 3030. Post-apocalyptic hip-hop! Yes, really.

MOOOOSIC

Ben Lee: 'Catch My Disease'
Evanescence: 'Call Me When You're Sober'

Wendy Rule, 'Hecate'
Kisschasy, 'Reminder'

You know what? A long time back, I made a Dresden Files FST (Fan Soundtrack, check [livejournal.com profile] fst for more details).

It included a lot of music of the sort I like (and a couple songs I found just to fit the mix). The comm is all flocked, but I've liberated the entry text and put it up on my server (along with teh muzaks) for your pleasure.

http://www.shinraonline.com/palmer/dresdenfst/dresden.html

With less commentary and more raw linkage, this is a selection of songs I really like and try to foist off on people as much as possible.
There are duplicates between these two lists, alas.
http://shinraonline.com/palmer/stuff/files.php

We can wrap this all up with a sampling from The Arrogant Worms, a Canadian Folk Humour band.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] cadhla has some pretty good songs. I really like Follow Me Down and Still Catch The Tide.

Hmm... what's stuff I've heard of that you may not have... Enter Shikari? Brand New? Brand New are totally awesome. Lemme youtube that. This is a pretty cool video clip. Ignore Quiet Things it's really not their best song... oh, this is quite good.

Here we go: Two of my favourite songs:
The Archer's Bows Have Broken and Degausser.

And for good measure have Sowing Season, and Limousine and Guernica with fake videos.

Um. Okay I'm done :P

Hey, is it just me, or is Faye's expression in this QC strip the same as Dora's in your Dora-with-hat icon? They are secretly evil twins! No, wait, they're overtly evil twins!

Date: 2008-01-22 03:23 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] active-apathy.livejournal.com
It's very, very similar - though overtly evil twins is kind of a possibility... and probably still wouldn't make Sven stop.

Raven's doing the same pose in this one. Now, of course it could just be how the artist draws girls sometimes, but I prefer to think that the three of them spend enough time together that they now subconsciously mimic one another to an extent -- probably in order to freak people out.

(I had to edit in a full stop. YAY COMMENT EDITING.)

(YAY INDEED!)

It's certainly possible; there has to have been at least a week of QC time by now. And, for Coffee of Doom, freaking people out is a perfectly legitimate promotional strategy.

Hannelore nearly does the same pose in #706. I think I need to stop reading now and go do something else before my headache really kicks into overdrive. I started at #434 today and I don't know how long I've been reading for, but that's a lot of strips in a row.

That's probably a good plan; I once read the whole archive in a night, but that was nearly six hundred strips ago, so. Yes. Something that's not drawn by Jeph might be good for you.
