And now we're all going to pretend I didn't just sit here for a few minutes trying to remember the URL for xkcd.

How do you spell FBI again?

Then we can pretend that I didn't think, "Oh, I wonder what it is?"

Then we can pretend that my first reflex wasn't to actually answer that, as though it was a perfectly serious question.

We're going to pretend that you're not using [livejournal.com profile] xkcd_rss, and thus don't actually visit Mr. Munroe's page unless you're headed to the fora.

"Quick! What's the number for 911?"

At least you didn't Google it, right?

I've never actually tried it, but I'm told that if you try 911 (or 999) on a phone here, you get a nice, pre-recorded message explaining that our emergency number is 000, would you kindly try calling it.

(And, no; I, um, realised I was staring at my sidebar link.)

000 in Australia? I gotta remember that.

(I remember seeing Europe's emergency number (112) recently on Making Light, but I forgot what it was. I'll have to look it up.)

Indeed. Or, for GSM phones, there's also 112 (which redirects to 000).

And Wikipedia has a list here.

Yay!

(Quick mental check: are these the kind of data that Wikipedia can be trusted to protect? Hmm, might want to double-check before dialing some of the ones for smaller countries.)
