Does this post have anything to do with text adventures? Honestly, not a thing, but I can't very well start using meaningful subject lines now.

So, I've fixed Deepest Sender, which means that I can post without having to use the horrible 'update journal' page and without having to use anything that won't live in Firefox. Yay me! The unfortunate side effect is that I fixed Deepest Sender today, ie, the day after the pretend zombie invasion.

I have a working LJ client. Now all I need is a gorram time machine to go back to yesterday and (try to) be funny. But no, no fictional zombie invasion for me.

Also: it's really very odd to type <em>me</em>.

In other news, my V:tM - Bloodlines has no downtown map. This saddens me. If someone a copy of la_hub_1.bsp they could upload somewhere, that'd be perfect. One from unofficial patch 3.5 or 3.6 would be even better, but I'd happily settle for a working copy that doesn't make me reinstall the whole game.

I missed it too, but I posted anyway. Figures the zombies would have time zone issues too, right?

I'm more of an <i>me</i> person myself, which would make it narcissistic HTML, I suppose.

<i>I</i> is also kind of odd, but doesn't have the same mirrory-tags effect.

Oh, and as far as the zombie invasion goes, I think they're planning on doing it again next year, so you can start planning.

How's the Harry Potter reading going?

From: [identity profile] active-apathy.livejournal.com
All done, so far, as of sometime late-ish last year. And when Deathly Hallows comes out, I'm going to wait until it's in a cover that matches my copies of the other six, so I'll be kind of HPless for a bit, but not nearly so long as I have been previously.

You have the adult covers, don't you? The hardcover adult covers come out at the same time as the 'children's' covers.

Apparently I am a geek for having the 21st completely planned around acquiring and reading the book, but I was informed of this by someone who had just told me how much they'd been LARPing of late, so I didn't care.

I have the adult covers in 18cm paperback, so no instant-release for me.

*nods* Turning up in full Hufflepuff uniformywhatever at stupid o'clock for HP7 > LARPing. Clearly. Paper scissors rock and dignity are mutually exclusive. :)

Oh. In that case, may I suggest sussing out putting your name on a waiting list at the local library? If you inquire now you might even be in the mid-300s... I'm only suggesting this because I think the spoilers are going to be unavoidable after about five minutes post-release, and it's not nice to have such things ruined.

I get up at stupid o'clock anyway for work, so I have no problem getting up at stupid o'clock for HP, and as it happens I don't have to get up at nearly as stupid o'clock as I did for Half-Blood Prince (IIRC I got up at four-thirty).

6 AM get up, get dressed, get taxi to McDonalds, eat horribly bad for me but very filling breakfast (hash browns and OJ), then cross road to Dymocks (aiming for 7 AM) to start waiting.

9.01 AMish: acquire book, go upstairs to Max Brenners, acquire hot chocolate, READ (the book, not the hot chocolate).

I'm even researching how far in advance I can book a taxi, and trying to decide whether it mightn't be a good idea to sit in Max Brenner's with hot chocolate refills until I finish the book.

Ooh, mid-300s. Assuming one copy, two week loan periods and no overdues, that makes a best case of 600 weeks or about 12 years.

(And last time, the spoilers came before the book.)

So, instead, I'll adopt my own spoilers. My first one is that River's made of chocolate... and I'll bet you didn't even know that River's in HP7, which is how big a spoiler that one is.

The only McDonald's menu item I buy ever is the pancakes. Which I call pancakes, because I refuse to subscribe to their naming scheme. I am civil, and I am disobedient.

I know not the Max Brenner's of which you speak. I'd opine that it may be more cost-effective to drink hot chocolate at home, but it loses some of the 'hey, look, I preordered, bwahahahahaha' that you could visit upon passersby (or awed children who don't know about the magic of the preorder).

NOESSPOILED!

Though hell...is this the Firefly River? 'cause I could totally stand for her to be in HP. She'd kick Voldy's arse into next tuesday.

It is, indeed, the Firefly River. "River's made of chocolate" was a pretend spoiler for Serenity. And, yes - I'd love to have River kill Voldemort with her brain.

I am suddenly tempted to do my best to try to spread "River kills Voldemort with her brain" as a spoiler for HP7.

...I so need to make this into an icon...

It can! It can also have a post that's just waiting for HP7 'spoilers'.

I hope we get some more.

I'm trying to think of riffs on classic spoilers, but my head's pretty well stuck in editing-land.

OMG SPOILER.

(Well, okay. I'll be honest. I've seen leaked parts of the seventh book, and my all time favourite part is when Mulder and Scully come to investigate 'mysterious disappearances of school-aged children' in Hogwarts' vicinity, and Scully can see what's going on because she's a witch, but Mulder turns out to be extraordinarily Muggle.)

Max Brenner's is a 'chocolate café' -- an American concept readily adopted in at least three locations in Melbourne, one of which happens to be directly upstairs from the Dymocks where I've pre-ordered The Book. It is certainly far more cost-effective to drink hot chocolate at home, especially considering my recent acquisition of 1.25 kilos of Milo for $10, but Max Brenner's really do do a lovely job, and at the very least I will get one cup to take away.

I liked the preliminary draft where Voldemort starts by taking out this group of pretentious angsty vampires, but Anne Rice wouldn't allow it.

Seriously, who wouldn't adopt chocolate? And from whence came this bounteous haul of Milo?

From: [identity profile] laurenmitchell.livejournal.com
I knew you were going to mention Anne Rice eventually.

I need more spoilers so I can make more icons.

The Milo came from Coles; o blessed supermarket, bringer of cheap chocolate milk flavouring unto the public.

Where 'best' means 'potential source of distraction while I'm trying to do some editing'.

I have Winamp, Word, Firefox, and Photoshop open; within Firefox I have exactly no editing-related tabs open, but I do have my 'Edit Userpics' page open.

I guess this might at least partly solve the problem of me having 44 empty icon slots.

Totally missed the Great Zombie Uprising, though my last post was zombie-related. Coincidence? I think not!

Are zombies achieving critical mass on the intarwebs? Is it a sign of the end times the next pirates vs ninjas meme? Braaains?

Date: 2007-06-15 12:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] active-apathy.livejournal.com
Clearly zombies are just recruiting supporters to form a viable alternative to the current two-party/crew/clan/whatever system of fandom. When zombies are a valid third choice, they feel that the Intarwebs may finally be free of the pirate vs ninja squabbling and that some genuine new policies aimed at the greater good of modern fiction.

I, on the other hand, expect a different outcome.

"Avast! We be at war wi' the scurvy zombies, arr! We's always been at war wi' the zombies. Now hoist th' mainsail, ye sluggards! We sail to the aid of our old ninja allies, yarrr!!"
