I couldn't help it with this one; I (vaguely) storyboarded it on the shower screen with a whiteboard marker this morning, and now I've spent the last couple of hours on the drawing and colouring in and animation.

So! Here it is: the felicitous union of BSG and Santa hats (of which I've drawn eleven tonight. 11!) I'd have liked a bit more of the raider to be visible, but Zoic seems to have mostly stayed all "ZOMG only realistic light sources!" for BSG, and getting some actual detail on the raider meant the background turned out less like space and more like a test pattern on crack.

I'm torn. It scares the hell out of me, and yet is it really that much more terrifying than a big fat man sneaking down my chimney?

Is it wrong that as I watch that icon my mind automatically fills in the "whomm...whomm" noise*?

*Do the new Cylons still have the "whomm...whomm" noise? I still haven't got around to watching new!BSG, so I'm remembering the 70s sound effect.

Would you prefer Tigh in a santa suit? No? Didn't think so.

I thiiiink the centurions do, but new!BSG has very much joined the 'no sound in space' side.

I can definately see Gaeta as an elf, though.

Er...it has sound in space, it's just very muted. The Raiders definately make the Blinky Eyeball Noise of Doom.

...

Yes.

And half the fleet's just going to be getting lumps of tylium, methinks.

Well, yes. It's got louder space than Firefly, but the loudest space!noise that I can remember is bits of Cylon on the hull of a viper. Their space is quiet enough for me not to care overmuch (and, possibly, just loud enough that people who hate silence in space don't get too upset).

*looks at icon again*

I didn't realise at first that that was one of the fighter craft (you'd think I'd remember that Raider = fighter). I thought it was a Centurion's head against a dark sky.

It has overtones of Dalek too.

That is both very cute and very well-done. You're good at this.

Dalek? I'm... not seeing it.

Oooh... there's differences, but they're still similar enough (in new!BSG, at least) that I don't need to think about trying to make a centurion version. Hooray!

I hate it when that happens. Supernatural and Firefly both tend to set things in dark spaces too, and it's funny how you can see everything perfectly when they're moving...

Zoic did Firefly, too, and Joss was fairly clear about wanting there to not be inexplicable lights on all the spaceships. :)

Yeah, well, I meant inside, but yeah, it's fair enough. Just annoying when iconning.

I think it's something to do with the shape of the top of the hat and the way it swivels from side to side very much in the manner of the dalek's sensor wand/thingy. The bobble on the hat does a good imitation of a dalek's eye.

The thought occurs to me that in canon, Gaeta can plot a hyperlight jump every 33 minutes for over a week with no sleep whatsoever. With elf!Gaeta, the BSG Santa wouldn't have needed some weird glowing-nosed reindeer.
