Dear flisters,

could you please kindly explain to me the following:

Who actually is flying this thing?

(Screencap taken from Serenity, the Firefly pilot episode)

Well, obviously it's the terrifying space monkeys!!

I feel much better now that someone else has noticed this.

I believe in Serenity (the movie) there's an equivalent shot, but I can't remember where. Maybe it wasn't the movie, just the pilot after all.

Joss noticed this. I noticed this since Joss mentions it in the DVD commentary. Nathan hadn't noticed it, and is quite surprised when Joss mentions it in the commentary.

That said, I feel like calling widespread attention to the way that Alan mimes so well that almost no-one ever notices.

Damn, I can't remember if I heard it on a commentary or the Q&A with Joss at the Serenity preview I went to but apparently it's one of the most unnoticed giant bloopers ever. Alan had to move his chair back so he could be in the shot and even though he was miming the flying, they just said, "heck, leave it in. Nobody will ever notice."

Actually, I think it might be on the Serenity commentary.

*points to above comment*

It's much like the straw on The Hat in The Message, which Alan happily talks about in its commentary (along with how he took the Red Button from Out of Gas).

What DIDN'T Alan steal from the set?

"That jumpsuit... mine. Those three buttons... mine. That big red button! TOTALLY mine... aww... but I'll give it to Joss."

I just completely burst out laughing, and my mom is looking at me funny. You just made my day.

And who is flying this thing? Me.

Clearly he is chanelling Anya, and driving by emphatic gestures.

I'm sure Otto is doing his usual good job of autopiloting.

And if you don't recognise that, get thee to a Blockbuster-or-whatever-you've got and watch Airplane!

Stat.

You might be amused by the furry Firefly silliness over at bad_rpers_suck (http://www.livejournal.com/community/bad_rpers_suck/2015234.html?thread=36264962#t36264962), if you haven't seen it already...

Alan didn't steal... um... Nathan!

But he wanted to!
