OMGWTFqualified!

(This will, I promise, make sense to the Australians reading this. Everyone else will most likely be very, very confused.)

Not Australian? Check.

Confused? Check.

Right on both counts, Cap'n.

Our football* team won in a shootout. They're in next year's world cup. This is the first time in over 30 years. There's a chance of lynch mobs and deportations for those not excited about their win.

*football, of course, is that game which is played using the feet and a spherical ball. Games with pointy balls that are carried or tossed about with the hands are not football.

I had the misfortune to grow up in a family whose men are obsessed with both pointyball and checkeryball football. Mistaking one for the other is a grave offense, and only LOCAL checkeryball is to be referred to as "soccer". The World Cup is most definately "football".

Pointyball is boring, and good for making me all sleepyfied. Circlyball is rather more watchable, but sport in general isn't a viewing option in the world of me.

Let me guess, Australia has beaten Uruguay in the final FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff?

(Okay, the other Aussie on my flist mentioned it in the post right under yours. :-) )

I read that and thought, "What has she qualified for deportation for?" ...um, yeah, I'm awake.

So: yippee! Although I hate it when a winner is settled by penalty shootout. Such a crapshoot.

Icon!

And, yes. But I'd hate it much more if they lost.

I said you'd most likely be confused, not definitely be confused. :)

Hee. Yay us. Not that I'm interested in soccer (I was dragged to too many of my brother's games as a kiddie!), but I just don't like losing ;)

It was good of them to not actually win until after The Glass House.

Ah. Well... he'd have just made the crowdsquish worse, anyway. *nods*

And... that would've been interesting. (Define interesting.)
