When you move out, you expect that when your parents decide to put people up for a bit it's not going to have any impact on your life. There might be a cup of tea and a bit of a conversation, or the obligatory dinner, but not the brutal reorganisation of space and lifestyle that comes of someone else trotting about like they own the place for a few days.

I used to think that too.

Imagine, then, my surprise at the phonecall I got this morning. I was told all about how one of Mother's friends is visiting from interstate for a few days so she can go to a job interview. Being morning and all, I mumble back answers along the lines of "oh, ok, that's good". I remember clearly the moment I actually woke up, snatched from blissful dreams of just going back to sleep when the phone stopped talking to me. Mother volunteered my home as temporary accommodation.

And this is why the first thing that went through my mind today was, loosely paraphrased, "OMGWTFBBQ". My mouth and lungs got as far as "Oh." Apparently, I must just be so lonely here after recent events* that having a visitor to eat my food and steal my chocolate seems like a perfect solution. Furthermore, this particular visitor has a small-ish child. I have a number of pointy and/or fragile bits pf precious. While I trust this particular minividual more than I do those of my own family, I have an overactive imagination when it comes to stabby injuries and/or breakages.

Oh - did I mention when they arrive? Tomorrow.
*checks clock, sees it's ticked over to AM*
Make that today. This means that my internet for the next couple of days will be severely limited, my housework will expand to fit the new population, I'm likely to face my hot water running out, lighting rooms with chocolate-scented candles will be far less appreciated and I'm likely to get odd looks for snacking on chocolate cereal near midnight.

Hoo-ray. I'd like to order a case of smiles with extra saccharin, for delivery yesterday.

As a meme-ish touch, dear reader, I'm going to ask you to do something. Chances are that since you're reading this, your interests overlap mine at some point, you think I'm vaguely amusing sometimes, or you clicked the random journal button. Regardless of which, I think it's pretty safe to say that your interests aren't exactly the same as mine - which means there's likely to be some shiny, fun thing just waiting to be shared/passed on/discovered/other.

For that very reason, even if you honestly wouldn't know me from a bar of soap, I'd like you to recommend something in a comment. Or maybe a few somethings. Or an alphabetised list of all the somethings you can think of, if that sounds like fun to you. And these can be for anything - a book, a picture, an author, an artist, a TV show, a movie, a band, a CD, a song, a new skill, a word, a community, a game, anything at all... though, preferably, something that you think is actually good. If someone else suggests something that you think is good, then second (or third or ... or four-hundred-and-seventy-ninth it) because that tends to make things sound better. If you can come up with a reason why, then I'd be happy to hear it in exchange for a gold star†.

And I think that's about it for the moment. Time to sort out the order for those smiles...

*for those who think they've missed it, they haven't. There'll be a post soon-ish. I think.
which in all likelihood would probably just be a small, electronic picture of a yellowish looking star. Or a text description.

Some, but not all. They're on my list of books to buy and read, though.

I've read them all, except a couple of the most recent ones, and I've also acted in a stage version of Men at Arms. I played Sybil Ramkin.
