1. It's been a while since I've posted.
  2. Actually, quite a while.
  3. I seem to have this kind of super!hiatus every year.
Preliminary findings:
  1. I should post something.
  2. Also, I should keep posting things.
Options for posting:
  1. Post a recap of everything that's happened since last I posted.
    • Pros:
      • There's a recap of everything that's happened.
      • I feel like I've posted something.
      • It may lead to further posting.
    • Cons:
      • I've forgotten lots of stuff that's happened.
      • It's long and tiresome to read.
      • Plus, a little more dull than I might otherwise like.
  2. Post some kind of frothy rant about a current issue.
    • Pros:
      • There's a frothy rant about some current issue.
      • I feel like I've posted something.
      • It may lead to further posting.
    • Cons:
      • Ranting as a first post back makes the subject look more important than it might otherwise be.
      • It's long and tiresome to read.
      • Plus, it's of limited interest to the flist in general.
  3. Post a meme.
    • Pros:
      • Memes are sometimes fun to play with.
      • I feel like I've posted something.
      • It may lead to further posting.
    • Cons:
      • It's a meme.
  1. Not posting for some time leads to posts like this.
  2. This post will likely contain a meme.

So, fair warning: here be meme.

  1. COS(x) where x is your age plus three?

Suffice to say, it's much the same as (1 - sin²(x))/cos(x).

  2. Will you be married by then?

Married by when? Age -0.748058? Er, no.

(And what would letting zygotes marry do for the so-called sanctity of marriage? ANSWER THAT, OH ANONYMOUS WRITER OF MEMES.)

  3. Who was the last person you hugged?

Whoever it was, it mustn't have been a very memorable hug.

  4. What were you doing at midnight last night?

Staring at a clock, wondering what I should be doing.

(Catching up on xkcd and QC won.)

  5. Ever stolen a street sign?

Not yet, but I may consider it if ever they make a sign that says "STEALING STREET SIGNS IS ILLEGAL. Please do not steal this sign."

  6. Do you know how to drive a stick shift?

As for other tasks I can have machines do for me, I'm not posting this by tapping in the ASCII using a morse code key spliced into the phone line, Winamp doesn't make me play instruments to hear music, and I don't hand-set galleys of type when I want to print something.

  7. Do you wear jewelry 24/7?

...I have no way to make this one interesting. So, no.

  8. Who is the funniest person you know?

Does it only count if they do it deliberately?

  9. Do you still have clothes from when you were younger?

People just assume that time is a big wibbly-wobbly ball of timey-wimey stuff, but actually, from a linear, subjective perspective, it's more of a strict progression from cause to effect, meaning that all my clothes are from when I was younger.

Except these ones, which are, in fact, from the future.

  10. What are you mad about right now?

Er... nothing. Except, perhaps, meme writers who want to marry off zygotes. They bother me some.

  11. Are you a jealous person?

Everyone else has more jealousy than me. It's not fair.

  12. What are you allergic to?

I'm allergic to some weird 'NKA' substance, according to every piece of officialdom that's needed to make a note of it. I'm not entirely sure what it is that I'm not supposed to be mixing with the nitrogen and potassium - is it silver? aluminium? astatine? - but I seem to have done well enough so far.

  13. What song lyric, if any, is stuck in your head at the moment?

None, for once, and I'm not getting one stuck in there just for you. No. Not at all.

  14. What did you dress up as for Halloween?

A twenty-something user of The Intertubes™. Oh, hey, wait...

  15. Do you enjoy travelling in aeroplanes?

Umpteen tons of metal, coated in extremely sensitive equipment, powered by dead dinosaurs and held aloft by a quirk of science? Who wouldn't? :)

  16. What is your favourite salad dressing?

Simple ones; oil, acid, flavouring, mix, add, eat.

  17. How many siblings do you have?

No trigonometry for this one? How very thoughtful.

  18. Do you know what you are going to wear tomorrow?

    I'm tentatively betting on clothes.

  19. Is your hair your natural hair color?

It's either that, or there's tiny little hairdresser elves that come and dye it while I sleep.

  20. What song are you listening to right now?

An MP3 of this. Well, not exactly; the MP3 has better sound quality, and makes me wish that 'MP<3' could be a valid filename extension.

  21. Does anyone like you?

That's not a very nice thing to say, oh anonymous meme writer person. Not very nice at all.

  22. What are you thinking about right now?

    Answering this question.

  23. What does your last message in your inbox say?

It talks of a new version of the Portable Apps suite. Wow, exciting.

  24. Do you call anybody by their last name?

No, unless Shepherd Book somehow counts.

  25. What was the first thing you thought about when you woke up?

Going back to sleep, swiftly followed by why that might be a bad idea.

  26. What did you do yesterday?

    Er... stuff. Yes.

  27. What would you rather be doing right now?

Well, it's certainly not marching up and down the square.

  28. What did you last cry over?

Er... something. A movie, perhaps? If it helps, it probably wasn't spilt milk.

  29. What always makes you feel better when you are upset?

Always? Nothing. There are, on the other hand, many things that frequently work.

  30. What are you worried about?

Less than Hannelore, and that's good enough for me.

  31. Have you ever had your heart broken?

  32. Have you ever been out of the country?

    [Insert here joke about Tasmania/Queensland]

  33. Does the future scare you?

Not really; specific future events, perhaps, but the future as a whole doesn't strike me as OMGfrightening.

  34. Have you ever had the cops called on you?

No. (This is not an invitation.)

  35. Who was the last person you ate with?

Um... someone. I think I'll just say the ghost of Brillat-Savarin and be done with it.

  36. Where's your best friend?

Unlike you, oh anonymous meme writer, I don't feel I have to radio collar my friends.

  37. When did you last see your mum or dad?

  38. When was the last time you danced?

    In the shower this morning.

  39. Where do your grandparents live?

Happily, far enough away to not bother me.

  40. Can you drive?

    More or less.

  41. Where is your favorite place to be?

    I don't really have a favourite place.

  42. Where would you like to move?

Hmm. Somewhere where summer never gets over 30°C would do nicely.

  43. Do you have nightmares?

So very, very few that I can't even make up a far-fetched example of nightmarishness to say "OH HAY LIKE THIS BAD THING? No", which ruins my plans for answering this question. Grr.

  44. Have you ever told anyone you were okay when you really weren't?

...for whom is this even a question?

  45. Do you think anyone out there loves you?

    It's possible.

  46. What have you done so far today?

Very, very little, followed by answering 45 questions from a meme. Actually, make that 46.

  47. Ever really liked/loved someone that wasn't good for you?

  48. Do you talk a lot?

I might, on occasion, be tempted toward a certain degree of loquacity.

  49. Can you play pool?

Reasonably well, unless I have to play an easy shot.

  50. Did you cry today?

No. Well, not yet at least.

  51. Where were you at 8:00 this morning?

In my nice, warm bed, thinking nice, warm, sleepy thoughts.

  52. Have anything you wish you could tell someone but can't?

Sure, I got a secret. More'n one. Don't seem likely I'd type 'em here, do it?

  53. Do you find it in your heart to forgive?

Forgive what, oh anonymous meme writer? Is there something you're not telling me?

  54. Has anyone ever told you that you have pretty eyes?

It's been said once or twice.

  55. Do you like to smile?

Not for the sake of smiling, no. Liking other things does, however, tend to make me smile some.

  56. Last thing you had to drink?

    Water, actually.

  57. What are you wearing?

    Woven, coloured plant fibres.

  58. What colour are your eyes?

    It depends on the lighting.

  59. Are you tan?

Er, no. That involves that weird 'sunlight' stuff, doesn't it?

  60. Do you prefer warm or cold weather?

Cold, definitely cold. Cold makes me seek warm; warm makes me seek a peaceful end.

  61. Where were you three hours ago?

    Right here, as it happens.

  62. Are you wearing socks right now?

No; even with toes that are a little cold, naked feet are comfier than wearing socks about all the time.

  63. When was the last time you went out of state?

A couple of months ago. Which is kind of disturbing, really, because from here "out of state" is only about 20-25 minutes away.

  64. Have you been to the movies in the last 6 days?

Unless BitTorrent counts as 'to the movies', no.

  65. Have you bought any clothing items in the last week?

There may have been a shirt ordered from the Interwebs. It may have been an hour ago. This may count as being in the last week. But, like a buffet table, how will we know unless we interrogate it?

And there we go, a post. Maybe later there'll be a post on swearing prime ministers, or on the Catholic annexation of Sydney, but for now I'm just going to click the magical post button.
